Newslens NG reports that as Nigerians took to the streets on the first day of the nationwide #EndBadGovernaceInNigeria protest, many faced additional frustration due to a sudden and widespread disruption in MTN’s network coverage. The outage, which began early this morning, has left millions of subscribers without reliable mobile and internet services.

Social media platforms and various online forums have been inundated with complaints from users across the country, expressing their discontent with the network failure. The disruption has severely impacted communication, exacerbating the challenges faced by protesters and citizens attempting to stay informed and connected during the critical period.

“I rely on MTN for my business and to stay in touch with my family,” said Lagos resident Adebola Adekunle. “Today’s outage has been a significant inconvenience, especially with the protests ongoing. It’s the worst possible time for this to happen.”

Newslens NG gathered that the network disruption has also affected emergency services, online transactions, and remote work, compounding the difficulties already posed by the nationwide demonstrations. Many users reported being unable to access essential services, making it harder to navigate the day’s events and ensuring the safety of participants in the protests.

MTN Nigeria has yet to release an official statement addressing the cause of the outage or providing an estimated time for the restoration of services. The silence from the telecommunications giant has only fueled public frustration and speculation about the reasons behind the network failure.

As the protests continue, the need for reliable communication becomes even more critical. The public is urged to seek alternative means of staying connected and to remain vigilant during this period of heightened activity and potential unrest.

Nigerians hope for a swift resolution to both the network issues and the grievances that have led to the nationwide protests, emphasizing the importance of reliable communication in times of social and political upheaval.
