DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure that the NSCDC operative died in the hospital while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.

According to Ayanlade, the operative was attempting to restrain the boy when he was stabbed multiple times.

An eyewitness said the mother of the mentally unstable boy had invited two NSCDC personnel to help her restrain and chain him due to his violent behaviour. In the process, the boy reportedly overpowered one of the officers, disarmed him, and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife.

“Unfortunately, the civil defence officer died despite having a firearm with him during the incident,” the eyewitness added.
