An eyewitness said the mother of the mentally unstable boy had invited two NSCDC personnel to help her restrain and chain him due to his violent behaviour. In the process, the boy reportedly overpowered one of the officers, disarmed him, and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife.

“Unfortunately, the civil defence officer died despite having a firearm with him during the incident,” the eyewitness added.
