Legendary Singer Onyeka Onwenu Passes Away at 72

The music world is mourning the loss of legendary Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away at the age of 72. Onwenu, often referred to as the “Elegant Stallion” of Nigerian music, collapsed after a performance at a birthday party and was confirmed dead at Reddington Hospital in Lagos.
The tragic incident occurred during a private event, where Onwenu had just delivered a memorable performance, captivating the audience with her powerful voice and timeless stage presence. Witnesses reported that shortly after her performance, she suddenly collapsed. Despite immediate medical attention, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Onyeka Onwenu’s career spanned over four decades, during which she became an iconic figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Born on January 1, 1952, in Imo State, she first gained national recognition in the 1980s with her hit songs and later expanded her talents to acting.

Onwenu’s passing has sent shockwaves through the music industry, with fans and fellow artists paying tribute to her enduring impact on Nigerian music and culture. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations to come.
