Lagos State Govt Places Chrisland School On Probation

Chrisland High School in Ikeja, Lagos, has been placed on probation by the Lagos State Government for one academic session to monitor adherence to safety policies and guidelines.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, during an update on the recent meeting between the management of Chrisland Schools and government agencies under the Lagos State Joint Task Force in charge of the implementation of the child protection and safeguarding policy.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State Safety Commission, Office of Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, and others who made up the Joint Task Force attended the Meeting

They directed Chrisland to outline leadership functions and strengthen risk and safety management in all schools under its jurisdiction.

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has also directed the management of Chrisland Schools to urgently implement short and long-term reforms in school governance.

The school management has been directed to recruit a certified Risk Manager to conduct and render a detailed analysis of the risk management of the group of schools.

Additionally, the management has been asked to ensure that all students, staff, and stakeholders of the school who were affected by the death of Whitney Adeniran, a 12-year-old pupil who died during the school’s inter-house sports on February 9 at the Agege stadium, are given psycho-social therapy and trauma counselling.

“The stipulated conditions are outcomes of official investigations and reviews by all the agencies that form the Task Force and an example of the usual conditions precedent to reopening schools closed for any form of infraction in Lagos State,” said Adefisayo.

The Managing Director of Chrisland Schools, Ibironke Adeyemi, who led the school management to the meeting, promised to fulfil all requirements as directed by the Ministry.
