GLO RENEWS SUPPORT FOR ONITSHA OFALA FESTIVAL, CELEBRATES HERITAGE AND PROGRESS
The ancient city of Onitsha, Anambra State, is set to come alive with culture and tradition as the 2026 Ofala Festival gets underway, with telecommunications giant Globacom returning as the official sponsor.
The festival, which marks the 25th Ofala celebration in the reign of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, will be held under the theme, “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru: Strive and Advance, From Resilience to Progress.”
Globacom’s partnership with the historic festival spans more than 15 years, reflecting the company’s continued support for cultural institutions and initiatives that promote Nigeria’s rich heritage.
The Ofala Festival, deeply rooted in the royal traditions of Onitsha, has evolved over the years into one of the major cultural celebrations in the region. Beyond its traditional significance, the festival provides an avenue for the community to showcase its cultural identity, creativity and aspirations while connecting younger generations with their heritage.
Several activities have been lined up for the 2026 edition, including the Obi’s traditional period of seclusion and ceremonial emergence, the Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach, the international Oreze Art Exhibition, the Youth Carnival, as well as the grand finale featuring the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala ceremonies.
Speaking on the partnership, Globacom’s continued involvement underscores its belief that cultural heritage and development can exist side by side, with tradition serving as a foundation for communities to pursue progress.
The company’s “Never Settle for Less” philosophy also aligns with the festival’s theme, emphasising resilience, ambition and the pursuit of greater possibilities while remaining connected to one’s roots.
Through its continued sponsorship of Ofala, Globacom is supporting an initiative that promotes cultural identity, community development and social connection.
As Onitsha prepares for the 2026 celebration, the Ofala Festival continues to demonstrate how tradition can remain relevant in a changing society, bringing generations together while preserving the values and heritage of the people.
