Ezenagu berates NANS President over comment on Police Contributory Pension During visit To Tinubu
Prior to the comments made by the President of National Association of Nigerian Students on Police Contributory Pension During the Association’s visit to President Tinubu in Aso rock on Tuesday 13th of May, 2023. The Vice president of the Association, Comrade Victor Ezenagu has expressed disappointment in his colleague’s remarks stating that such act is unethical and doesn’t represent the opinion of the executives nor Nigerian Students.
According to him, “As the Vice President in charge of National Affairs of NANS, I write to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his historical assent on the Students Loan Bill. It’s indeed historical and unprecedented in Nigeria’s history. As leaders of Nigerian Students, we will continue to support Mr President’s pro masses policies and programs that are capable of turning around the fortunes of our dear county. Mr President, we say kudos to you sir.
As the Vice President National affairs, who by constitution and hierarchy, the second in command of the association, NANS, I’m perplexed, disappointed and confounded to have seen the NANS President playing to the gallery in the meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In the said meeting, he completely deviated from the pressing needs of downtrodden Nigerian Students while meddling into police affair that doesn’t really concern us as the leadership of NANS”
He explained that having received series of calls and text messages from Nigerian Students, both home and abroad on the excruciating display of the NANS President in the meeting, he wants to let Nigerian Students and the general public know that the president’s comment on Police Contributory Pension is his personal opinion.
He further stated that it is parochial, neither did it represent the opinion of the Executives nor Nigerian Students.
“It’s very painful that the NANS President failed to make judicious use of the opportunity of meeting Nigeria’s President to highlight Nigerian Students’ problems and challenges on campus and possible way out, as he suddenly reduced himself to Police Spokesperson”
“However, NANS since it’s invention has always been enjoying harmonious relationship with Police and other Security agencies. I implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adequately equip Police and other Security agencies so that crimes can be easily tackled and combated. Also, our Security agencies including Police should be properly and adequately funded. Having done the aforementioned, propensity for corruption would be drastically reduced in Security sector.
“On a final note, I want to assure Nigerian Students that we will continue to prioritize their interests as enshrined in the constitution of NANS as we’re determined to leave indelible records in the association” he said.
