DISCOVERING YOUR TRUE IDENTITY

Few years ago, I was to run an errand for the house one fateful evening and I checked my wardrobe and thought of what to wear (The intention was to look casual and simple). I eventually saw a round neck T-Shirt️ I rarely wore and I decided to put it on that evening. I hurriedly did that and went out.

On the street, while I was going and on my way back I noticed that some people who I don’t talk to greeted me at intervals. They were Indian hemp smoking and ogogoro drinking guys/ladies and were like “Mámà, bawo ni?” or “Alayé!”

I in shock answered politely and quickly, while I increased my pace to prevent further greetings from them.
( ” who is your mámà?” I thought with irritation)

This kept happening till I got home. I got greetings from both male and female, people that have never greeted me before and I was wondering why such people will start now.

Immediately I got home I met my grandma outside and what she said was a shocker to me.

“Ayo, nibo loti ri aso yii, ma wo mo o. soo ri nkan ti won ya sii ni’waju ni?”
Meaning;
“Ayo, where did you see this cloth, I don’t want to see it on you again, didn’t you see the drawing on it?”

Alas! There was an image like this ☠️ boldly printed in front of the cloth and it was then I understood why those people were greeting me. They thought I was one of them just because I wore something that belongs to them.

Personally, I don’t have anything against clothes with weird drawings or designs because it just never occurred to me that such minute things could misrepresent me and attract such people to me but I understood that day that such things matter.

Recently, the Lord brought this event back to my mind and as I meditated on it, I would like to share a great lesson from it.

There’s a way you talk and act that make people think you are a particular tribe because Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba have their different peculiarity ie. unique characteristics and habits.

Don’t dress the way you don’t want to be addressed nor act the way you don’t want to be seen. If you are the type that doesn’t care about what people think of you, then you shouldn’t also care when you are addressed and treated improperly. This does not mean that you should always seek validation from people, but ensure you are intentional in building yourself a good value system and this value system are seen through the way you talk, behave and dress which eventually make up your IDENTITY.

What does the bible say about IDENTITY?

*Luke 5:37;
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

When you pray for victory, check the body (adornments) you have on you. If the victory doesn’t meet you the way God described you, then it won’t drop. It will keep hovering just like the spirit of God was hovering upon the surface of the earth in the beginning (Gen.1:2) or even if it drops, it will waste just like Luke 5:37 described.

Any deeds (adornment) you have on that doesn’t suit you or who God sees you as, attracts those things you see around you and no matter your anointing, if you are not properly adorned, the devil will frustrate you and deprive you of what you have in Christ Jesus.

You can’t wear God and be escorted by Satan… ko possible!

Finally, Luke 5:38 says that;

But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

When you have the right identity, your victory is automatically preserved, everything that concerns you enjoys the covenant of preservation by God.

If that image on my cloth could make them notice and greet me like one of them physically, how will the spiritual effect be when we put on adornment that does not suit us spiritually?

You want to have the right identity, then make Christ your role model. How do you do that? Know Christ. How do you know Christ?, through His word.
