6.3-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Vanuatu

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake has struck Vanuatu, a Pacific island nation, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake occurred on Thursday, October 8, 2026, with its epicentre located about 102 kilometres northeast of Norsup in Malampa Province, at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.

There were no immediate reports of major casualties or significant damage, while authorities and monitoring agencies continued to assess the situation.

The earthquake reportedly did not trigger an immediate tsunami warning. Vanuatu is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire and frequently experiences earthquakes and volcanic activity due to movements along tectonic plate boundaries.
