Police patrol vehicles must obey traffic rules and regulations- IGP Egbetokun

Acting Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun yesterday ordered that all Police patrol vehicles must obey traffic rules and regulations as the Nigeria Police Force must strengthen the effectiveness of the lead internal security agency in the country to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties of citizens
The Acting IGP gave the order at the IGP’s conference hall Louis Edet House Force Headquarters Abuja during a strategic meeting with Squadron Commanders of the Police Mobile Force PMF and Special Protection Unit SPU of the Police Force.
He said that the protection of lives and properties of the citizens of Nigeria and foreigners and maintenance of law and order are the primary duties ot the Police
He noted that in the light of the current security challenges, a lot of of strategies have been emplaced by the Police hierarchy to stem the rise in the ugly trend in Nigeria.
He also hinted that a special intervention squad comprising of 40,000 officers had been established by the new Police administration to address these emerging threats to national security.
The Police helmsman also stated that the team members ‘ll be deployed to everyone state of the Federation adding that they will be combat ready at all times.
He charged all the Squadron leaders and commanders who he described as the tactical team of the Police Force to identify and forward the particulars of all capable persons in their formations for enlistment into the committee.
He said: “they should be able to tackle banditary, insurgency, kidnapping and other security threats affecting the nation.
“A special committee headed by the DIG Operations had been set up to this effect. The committee should send it’s report in two weeks”.
The newly appointed Acting IGP who had previously held a similar strategic meeting with Strategic Police Managers comprising of Deputy Inspectors-Generals DIGs, Assistant Inspectors-General AIGs and Commissioners of Police, CPs also said that the Police officers must stictly adhere to the code of conduct of the Police.
He charged the Police officers and men to conduct themselves in a manner that ‘ll command them respect from the public and added that security of the lives and properties of citizens must be safeguarded.
Earlier in the formal unveling of the agenda of the meeting, Force Public Relations Officer FPRO CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said that Squadron Commanders and senior officers of the Special Protection Unit are the tactical squad or team of the Police Force.
