Labour Cuts Water Supply To National Assembly Over Strike
The National Assembly has been thrown into confusion as members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), have cut water supply in compliance with the indefinite strike declared by the organised labour.
The complex has been shut with the entrance and exit gates blocked with two coastal buses by PASAN.
This follows Labour’s insistence on strike over their refusal to accept the Federal Government’s offer of N60,000 minimum wage.
Attempts by the leadership of the National Assembly to resolve the industrial action failed on Sunday with the meeting with Labour ending in deadlock.
The organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by Joe Ajaero had led his team to the meeting but insisted that their demand of N494,000 stands.
Labour said it would return to its affiliate members before taking any decision and told the National Assembly leadership to wait for the feedback.
Banks, schools, airports among other institutions of government and organised private sector have been shut down in the ongoing strike.
Earlier, electricity supply to the complex, which houses the Senate (upper house) and the House of Representatives (lower house) had been withdrawn.
