France Records Biggest Winning Margin, Beats 10 men Gibraltar 14-0
France, who had already secured their qualification, displayed an impressive performance in Nice on Saturday, defeating Gibraltar with a remarkable scoreline of 14-0.
Notably, nine French players contributed to the scoring, highlighting the team’s strength and depth.
France’s 14-0 demolition of Gibraltar on November 18, 2023, was a historic victory, setting a new record for the biggest win in European Championship qualifying. The match was also France’s biggest-ever win in international football.
France took the lead early on with an own goal in the third minute, and they never looked back. They added more goals in the first half, including strikes from Marcus Thuram, Warren Zaïre-Emery (on his debut), Kylian Mbappé, Jonathan Clauss, and Kingsley Coman.
Gibraltar were reduced to 10 men in the 18th minute when Ethan Santos was sent off for a nasty challenge on Zaïre-Emery. This made the task even more difficult for the already outmatched visitors, and France took full advantage.
Adrien Rabiot and Coman scored in quick succession to make it 10-0, and Ousmane Dembélé added another before the break. Mbappé completed his hat-trick with two goals in the second half, and Olivier Giroud scored twice in the closing stages to round off the scoring.
The 14-0 win was a remarkable display of attacking prowess from France, and it will be a night that Gibraltar will want to forget. For France, it was a perfect way to prepare for the upcoming European Championship.
This victory not only surpassed their previous record for the most significant winning margin but also established a new European record for the most significant win in the history of the Euro tournament.
