Court Rejects Abba Kyari’s Request As Embattled DCP Complains Of Diabetes
The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the request of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, seeking release from custody.
Newslensng reports that the embattled former commander of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, had dragged the Federal government to cout over his continued detention in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
Ruling on the case on Monday, Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo asked Abba Kyari to put the Federal Government on notice of the existence of the suit he instituted against it.
Justice Ekwo refused to order the immediate release of the suspended DCP, ordering him to put the respondent on notice.
According to the judge, all the allegations levelled against the Federal Government are so weighty that the court must give the government opportunity to defend itself.
Abba Kyari had through his lawyer, Cynthia Obianuju Ikena, asked the court to order his release or alternatively set liberal bail conditions for him.
The police officer claimed to be suffering from chronic diabetes threatening his life and therefore needs urgent medical attention
