Fight against malaria requires multidisciplinary approach – Orange Group
Orange Group, a leading FMCG company in Nigeria, has said the fight against Malaria requires a multidisciplinary approach involving the development of effective treatments and the implementation of preventive measures.
The company says this is why it has invested heavily in research and development to create innovative products that can help prevent and treat Malaria.
In a bid to mark World Malaria Day with a commitment to tackle Malaria through its innovative drugs, the company is renewing its pledge to help reduce the burden of Malaria and beyond.
This year’s World Malaria Day theme “Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement,” Orange Group Nigeria has promised to keep up its fight against the disease by spreading awareness and providing its innovative and cutting-edge anti-malaria medication and repellent cream.
Uchenna Ezenna-Gboneme, group media and communications director, said the company’s flagship products, Laris and Gardia, effectively prevent malaria infection and reduce transmission rates.
Ezenna-Gboneme said Laris, an anti-malaria medication, contains a combination of artemether and lumefantrine that has been proven highly effective in treating Malaria.
The drug which is available in tablet form, makes it easy to administer, even in remote areas with limited healthcare infrastructure, she said.
The medication is available and is offered at an affordable price to ensure access to all Nigerians, irrespective of their social or economic status.
“We have worked closely with healthcare providers and regulatory authorities to ensure that Laris meets the highest quality and safety standards,” she added.
In addition to Laris, Gardia, a mosquito repellent cream, is also an innovative solution developed to protect individuals from mosquito bites, she said.
She explained that the cream is a top-performing mosquito repellent that is effective against many mosquitoes, including those that transmit Malaria.
” Gardia has been scientifically proven to repel mosquitoes for up to eight hours, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor use. The cream is easy to apply, non-greasy, and has a pleasant scent, making it a popular choice,” she said.
“We are proud to say that Gardia has helped many people avoid mosquito bites, reducing their risk of malaria infection,” she further added
Orange Group Nigeria is also involved in several initiatives to reduce malaria transmission rates and promote community involvement in malaria control efforts.
These include community sensitisation programs and partnerships with agencies and NGOs.
“At Orange Group, we are committed to using our expertise and resources to help solve the malaria problem. We believe that collaboration and innovation can make a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of people affected by this disease. We will continue to invest in research and development to create new and better products and work with our partners to implement effective prevention and treatment programs. Together, we can achieve a malaria-free world.” Gboneme added
The goal of World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25, is to increase public awareness of the fight against Malaria and promote action to lessen its impact on suffering and mortality.
Millions of Nigerians are in danger of contracting Malaria each year, making it a severe issue in the country. According to the World Health Organization, Nigeria is home to the most significant number of malaria infections and fatalities worldwide.
