Rangnick: Michael Carrick turned down offer to work with me at Manchester Utd

The New Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has disclosed that he failed to convince Michael Carrick to stay at the club and work with him.

Carrick made his intentions to leave Manchester United after his team had won against Arsenal on Thursday night

Rangnick on Friday revealed he spoke with Carrick at length about the prospect of remaining at the club, but the ex-midfielder’s mind was already made up.

“I had a conversation with Michael for more than an hour and tried to convince him [to stay], but he needed a break and I understand his decision.

“I am more than happy to work with the current staff because I need their expertise on the current squad. I will try and find one, two, maybe three people to help us. But due to Brexit, it’s not that easy,” Rangnick said.
