Nigeria Police Set to develop App for Hotels, Motor Parks Monitoring

Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting inspector general of police, has stated that the force is developing a surveillance program that will record all hotels and car parks nationwide, among other things.

He added that the Force was also developing a new technology that could gather and manage information on all domestic workers with verified employment histories.

He added that the innovation would be released before the end of the year and would complement the current Digitalized Central Motor Registry.

The police chief made this statement, according to a statement by the force’s spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, after touring the state-of-the-art National Command and Control Centre facility and the Nigeria Police Crime and Incidence Database Centre at Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The declaration states, “In addition to the Digitalized Central Motor Registry, which is already in operation, the NPF is working on innovating other areas crucial to security. The Police Mobile Security Surveillance, which among other things will record all motor parks, commercial drivers operating daily in Nigeria, passengers plying various routes, and passengers, including hotel lodging data, are some of these that will be unveiled within the year. Another is the Domestic Help Registration, which will create and manage centrally accessible data of all domestic help with verifiable previous employment data.

In addition to other technology used by the Force, Adejobi claimed that the IG urged Nigerians and police officers to adopt the “Rescue Me mobile application.

The adoption of the technology by the Force, according to him, will facilitate operations across the nation and improve relations between law enforcement and the public.

“The tour’s goal was to highlight the IGP’s commitment to incorporating smart policing practices into the Nigerian Police Force. Throughout the tour, the IGP emphasized the Police Force’s efforts to adopt cutting-edge technology and urged officers to fully utilize these tools to improve service delivery to citizens and enhance operations.

“In keeping with the Nigeria Police Force’s mission to strengthen community engagement, the IGP also urged all Nigerians to embrace, download, and use the NPF Rescue Me App.

“This cutting-edge mobile app offers a platform for citizens to quickly alert the Police Force in emergencies, facilitating quick response and assistance. The “NPF Rescue Me App” can be downloaded and used for free on both the Android and iOS application stores, the statement continued.

However, he claimed that in order to enhance their investigations, among other things, the IG ordered all investigation units and police formations to immediately reactivate the NPCIDC application

“The IG directed the use of the applications installed at the NPCIDC, where the biometrics and other pertinent data/information of every suspect will be updated and kept for better investigations and record keeping. Police officers will have easy access to this to ensure a reliable electronic criminal database to support investigations, according to the statement.
