Mixed Reactions as Rivers State Palliative Bus Breaks Down 12Hours After It Was Launched

According to Port Harcourt official social media account on Wednesday, the newly launched Rivers palliative bus was seen stranded on the road.

Most People claim that “this is total disservice to the people of Rivers State, what an ignominious and obscene. On the first day that a free bus was set to be running within Port Harcourt metropolis to convey civil servants and others to the various strategic locations or bus stop in Port Harcourt, it was gathered that the bus developed fault, unable to move while passengers were said to be stranded on the way to work.

Some have asked “if this is a newly purchased bus as we were told by Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, because the service is nothing to write home about. Tyre problem, electrical faults, engine problem break and quench etc. If you enter any of this bus ensure you have your transportation fare incase if it stops you half way you can continue your journey with your own money.”

“It’s an old bus bought by Amaechi since the Amaechi administration, It was used by Wike during Covid-19 palliative transport, In short it’s refurbished.”

However, the Rivers State Commissioner for Transport Jacobson Nbina says it is not true that the free transport scheme is only meant for civil servants.

Dr Nbina said this during the flag-off of seventeen buses for the free transport scheme at Waterlines, Port Harcourt. He said the scheme is for all residents of the state.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, flagged off the scheme on behalf of Governor Fubara. She said the free transport scheme is aimed at reducing the financial burden on residents caused by petrol subsidy removal.

Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Sir. Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS has officially flag off the Rivers State Government fuel subsidy intervention transport scheme.The initiative is to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal and to reduce the high cost of transportations for Students, Civil servants and Market women within and outside the State.

The flag off took place at the Rivers State Transport Company (RTC) Park. Along Olu-Obasanjo Road by Waterline junction, Portharcourt.
