Former Plateau Governorship Aspirant Kidnapped. Fifty Million Naira Ransom Demanded.

In the North Central state of Plateau, a former governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party in the 2019 election, Nkemi Nicholas Nshe, has been kidnapped by an unknown gunmen.

The abducted politician had been elected as the chairman of Shendam Local Government Area(the local government of the current governor, Simon Lalong) in the state at different periods in the past. The ugly incident happened at his residence in the council area in the early hours of Saturday, 1st January 2022.

A source close to Nshe, spoke with pressmen and lamented that the kidnap of the former council boss has left the community in a state of panic and fear. The kidnappers were said to have gained entrance into the home of their victim in the early hours of Saturday. Nshe was taken away that night.

Later in the day, the abductors were said to have put a call across to the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of N100 million. However, after further negotiations, the kidnappers settled for a ransom of N50 million.

The source further stated that in a time of hardship and suffering like this, to raise such amount of money is going to be herculean. He also called on the government to ensure the security of lives and properties.

The abduction of Nshe is the latest confirmed case in the state. A traditional ruler (Charles Mato Dakat of Gindiri community in Mangu Local Government Area) regained his freedom from the hands of kidnappers barely 24 hours after he (Nshe) got kidnapped.

The Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Division, Ubah Ogaba, is yet to make an official statement as regards to the abduction. Hopefully, investigations will be made, arrests made and the culprits brought to book.
