COMTUA Berate illegal Extortion of Members at Alakoso Avenue
Newslens NG reports that Council of Maritime Truck Unions and Associations (COMTUA) has warned of an impending crisis, alleging that Members of the Council Revenue team in Amuwo Odofin Local government are extorting truck drivers around the industrial Estate in Alakoso Avenue using council tickets.
National President of COMTUA, Mr Adeyinka Aroyewun said this in a statement dated 28th September, 2024.
The President argued that this illegal act is causing a lot of concern among members of the association.
He lamented that despite the denial of the council management and against the MOU signed by the state government with the Nigerian Ports Authority, the illegal act of extortion persists.
He added that this act is a serious breach of trust and it is not acceptable in any way.
“We do not want to believe in a criminal conspiracy by the council. However, the persistence of this illegal act suggests that there may be some level of collusion among the revenue team members.
“We want the matter addressed as a matter of urgency, and we urge you to take immediate action to investigate and put an end to this illegal act.
“We understand that the revenue team is responsible for generating revenue for the council, but this should not be done at the expense of our businesses in the area. We believe that the revenue team should be held accountable for their actions, and we urge you to take appropriate action to ensure that justice is served”, he said.
